Welcome to ASID COMMUNITY SERVICE
A committee of heart - that brings healing by design
"There are two worlds: the world that we can measure
with line and rule, and the world that we can feel with
our hearts and imagination." -
Leigh Hunt
The ASID-Illinois Chapter has formed an alliance with
the Supporting the Spirit Foundation and the Illinois
Facilities Fund originating on the belief that all
human beings are entitled to - and nurtured by - living
and working within an environment that comforts the spirit
and provides the opportunity to heal and replenish.
As volunteers of the ASID COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE,
our mission is:
- to bring our creative expertise and design ability
to interior design projects presented to us through
the Supporting the Spirit Foundation.
- to work on a pro bono basis to help those in need.
Current Projects...
TEEN LIVING PROGRAM - THE BELFORT HOUSE
Last year, the Teen Living Program provided residential
and supportive services to over 10,000 homeless and runaway
youth on the North and South sides of Chicago. ASID COMMUNITY
SERVICE and Supporting the Spirit Foundation have partnered
together on this project. We are working with the staff
and clients of the Teen Living Program - the Belfort House
by providing ASID design services. Our mission is to design
and create a more comfortable, nurturing and home-like
environment for homeless and runaway teenagers at Belfort
House. Ultimately the goal of the Teen Living Program
will be to help these teenagers become independent. Education
and training in basic skills of home care, cooking, money
management etc. are some ways the Teen Living Program
expects to accomplish this goal.

SOUTHWEST WOMEN WORKING TOGETHER
For women and children who have suffered domestic violence
and abuse, Southwest Women Working Together provides counseling,
housing and educational job training programs. More than
12,000 women and children were served last year. Increased
demand and growing staff have prompted this Service to
build a new facility and as ASID Community Service members,
we will help design the interior spaces.

Completed Projects.
Three major projects designed and completed by the ASID
Community Service Committee - Deborah's Place, The Rebecca
Johnson Apartments and Marah's Place - have empowered
women who are homeless and formerly homeless to take back
and maintain control of their lives by providing food,
shelter and supportive services every day of the year.
