The Foundation for Interior Design Research
FIDER leads
the interior design profession to excellence by setting
standards and accrediting academic programs that prepare
interior designers to create interior environments for
improving the quality of human experience.
FIDER was founded in 1970 by an alliance of interior
design professional organizations. The intent of the
founders was to promote excellence by developing standards
for interior design education and to acknowledge the
increasing demands of an emerging profession. The same
strong philosophical support continues today. FIDER
sets standards for postsecondary interior design education,
evaluates college and university interior design programs,
and publishes a list of accredited programs that meet
the standards in the United States and Canada. Its primary
purpose is to ensure a high level of quality in interior
design education to meet the needs of students, the
interior design profession, and society.
FIDER is recognized as a reliable authority on interior
design education by the Council
for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is
a member of the Association
of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA).
