Home & Garden Television’s
New [Spaces]

Every home remodel is an adventure complete with an array of ups and downs, loves and hates, laughs and cries and always well worth it in the end! Our nationally televised series New Spaces, which airs on HGTV, is currently looking for unique and fun projects for our upcoming season. Not just dramatic before and afters, but projects and people that will be both interesting and engaging enough to keep a viewer tuned in.

TYPES OF PROJECTS:

We are interested in just about any residential remodeling project. It does not have to be big budget, but it does have to be fairly dramatic. Furthermore, the homeowners have to have a reason behind why they’ve chosen to do this project at this time; new baby on the way-gotta transform our den to a baby’s room, parents coming to live with us-we need a bigger kitchen for my mom who’s a chef, newly married-our first master suite together (!), a bachelor looking to “bachelorize” his basement-take it from cement floors and fluorescent lights to big screens and built-ins!

The home must be within one hour of downtown Chicago and we need to see the room before any work has begun. The following spaces are of interest to us, but if you have any other ideas please let us know:

Master suites, great room additions/remodels, attic conversions, garage conversions, very unusual bathrooms, foyers, basements, recreation rooms, home offices, living rooms, libraries and sun porch additions, solariums, pool houses, etc.

If you know of a project that you think may work for the show, please contact us at the phone numbers listed below or feel free to e-mail. Ideally, if your schedule allows, We would like to see any or all of the following prior to actually scouting the project:

- Photos of the space as it currently exists
- Proposed design/floor plans
- Estimated start and completion dates
- A brief description of the project (including sq. ft. before and after; design style; types of flooring; window; woodwork; cabinets, countertops; estimated cost, and anything else that makes this project special or unique).

Information for the Designer/ Builder/Architect:

New [spaces] features interviews with the designers, builders, contractors and others who make the plans come to life. We will need our contacts to keep up closely informed about the progress of the remodel and the dates on which specific events are expected to take place (date of cabinet install, countertop install, stucco, floor laying, etc.) If an event, which we are planning to document does not happen on the scheduled day and needs rescheduling, we will need to be informed just as your subcontractors are informed. It is important that we find out ASAP if something will be cancelled. Our crews come from all over the state and it saves a lot of time, money and frustration if we are as up-to-date as possible from start to finish. Please know that we do everything possible to be as unobtrusive as possible.

As the designer, contractor or architect, your name will be mentioned on the show and on the web site, (HGTV.COM). This is free publicity in the 60 million (and growing) households subscribing to HGTV. You will also receive a free video copy of your episode for promotion.

Information for Homeowners:

In the past, the emphasis of the show would lie more on the remodel than the homeowners. However, as New Spaces forges ahead with a revamped and stylish season, that scenario will flip-flop, bringing the homeowners, their lifestyles, likes, dislikes, etc. more into the spotlight. Their participation will be crucial to the show’s success; therefore, we absolutely need their permission, willingness to be flexible with their schedules and genuine excitement before we proceed with the project. Without their consent, we can not move forward.

While a few different interviews are required of them along the way, their address will remain anonymous.

Homeowners should be:

- Charismatic (“This is a big step and we can’t wait to take the plunge!”)
- Energetic (“I’m so excited about our new cabinets!”)
- Motivated (“We can’t wait to see the finished product!”)
- Willing to be interviewed (“Camera-shy? Not us!”)
- Flexible with schedules (“Let me check my palm pilot and see what works.”)
- Willing to let us follow them on a field trip (“Picking out tile with my husband isn’t going to be easy, but come on along!”)
- Have a story (“Our two boys are going to go crazy if they share this 5x7 bedroom any longer, we NEED the attic space to help us stop the insanity!”)
