Speakers Bureau

The ASID-IL Speakers Bureau is comprised of ASID Illinois members presenting topics related to interior design products and services. These topics are appropriate for both public/consumer organizations and professional business groups. The goal of each presentation is product and service education for those attending. ASID-IL believes that design-savvy consumers and novices alike, will benefit by attending these informative seminars.

ASID-IL interior design experts and designers are available to host a variety of presentation topics for the nominal fee of $100. Business and chamber associations, women's groups, communiity organizations, and building management groups, to name a few*, are invited to call and schedule such an event. Each presentation is approximately 45-60 minutes in length and offers product examples, practical information, and innovative design ideas to jumpstart residential and commercial design projects. Speaker equipment needs are listed below with each presentation topic. 

*For larger groups such as corporate events, conferences and trade shows, we will also consider your request for a custom presentation tailored to your audience.

The Myths and Realities of Professional Interior Design

The role of an interior design professional is often misunderstood. This presentation discusses why people might have been avoiding professional design consultation, but also what they might hope to gain by working with an interior designer. The audience will learn about how to research and find someone who is compatible with their tastes, personality, and budget considerations and also how to interview a prospective designer. In addition there is discussion of the steps employed once the interior design process has begun.

So You Want to be a Designer? 

Clarifying the Roles of Interior Designers, Architects and Interior Decorators
Presented by Frederick Miller, ASID,  Environments Group

Potential interior design students will be helped to understand the differences between the roles of Interior Designers, Architects, and Interior Decorators.  With a masters degree in architecture and an Illinois Registered Interior Designer, Derick will de-bunk misconceptions and individuals will be given a better idea of what to really expect from a profession in the world of design.  The audience will find out how they can best channel their interests into a new career.

Designology
Presented by Frederick Jase, Allied Member ASID, and Susan Fredman, ASID, Susan Fredman & Associates.

This interactive presentation demonstrates a systematic method to help designers discover their clients' perfect style - their functional aesthetic.  Clients are more easily persuaded to make the best choices for their homes and lifestyles once they understand how they live rather than simply what they like.  Attendees will learn to efficiently assess their clients' needs and preferences as well as the underlying reasons for the choices they make.  The reward is client-specific design that provides pleasure, meaning and function.  A full client questionaire is given to the participants with the opportunity for discussion and questions.
